About the Author
James A. Herrick is the Guy VanderJagt Professor of Communication at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, where he has served for ten years as the Chair of the Department of Communication. He received his M.A. from the University of California, Davis, and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Professor Herrick is the author of several books and numerous scholarly articles and reviews. His scholarly interests include argumentation, the history of rhetoric, and religious controversy.

I bought it for a class but will be selling it

Even though it is supposed to be easy to read, I feel like in cases there weren't enough examples and it was too wordy on things it could have explained more simply. I have personally gotten a lot more out of other Argumentation and Logic books, such as Beyond Feelings. Of course, it was a book required for a college class, so perhaps that is why I don't feel that positive about the book as well? Anyways, if you have to buy it for a class, buy it. Otherwise, find a different book to learn about argumentation and logic. I am going to be selling mine now that my class is over.

Extremely basic text book for argumentation. Felt almost more like a high school text book than college. The definitions are broken down well, but nothing really keeps the readers attention.

I found this a readable and title on the subject.

I found this to be a readable refresher on the subject. I've recently had to write a number of papers for my employer advocating various positions. This Herrick does a very nice job of going over the basics. The writing is suitable for high school, undergraduates and business folk.

Here, for the first time, was a complete treatise on the scientific and technical aspects of color reproduction written specifically for the printing industry.

For this special reprint edition, an introduction and update chapter written by Professor Gary G. Field supplements the original text. Each adds a timely dimension to the book, covering recent developments in the industry and augmenting its value as a reference tool.

About the Author
John A.C. Yule was a research associate at the Kodak Research Laboratories and later at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The author of many papers on the theory of color reproduction and halftone processes, Yule holds a number of patents on color scanners, halftone screens, and the photographic aspects of color reproduction. Gary G. Field, the author of Color and Its Reproduction (GATFPress), is an Imaging Scientist and professor of Graphic Communication at the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California.

A technical standby reference.

I can't believe this is only just now in its second edition -- my 20 year-old copy seemed like ancient wisdom at the time I got it... Back then, scanners were new and very expensive technology, so the book focused on the theory applicable to photography-based techniques. One needed to be well-versed in the science of photography (knowing physics helped) and human color vision to follow the book, but what it dealt with was great. All relevant aspects of color reproduction systems (esp. halftone systems based in inks) were dealt with in some detail, so for the very technically inclined the book was a goldmine of solid thinking and information -- even if many of the literature references were even then several decades old. Though the basic principles never change, I'll be interested to see whether the new edition has been sufficiently updated and revised to keep up with the revolution in the field the last two decades as things have moved over increasingly to electronic/digital ways of doing things.

Starting with the Middle Ages, each chapter is devoted to a different century and paradigm, from how fashion shaped the body during the 14th century to the impact of consumer culture in this one. The effect is akin to watching one of those time-lapse sequences of flowers blooming, as hemlines rise and fall, corsets squash and squeeze, flounces come and go and colors grow florid and fade while listening to a learned commentary on the social, political and cultural significance of this seemingly arbitrary activity. Indeed, there are many voices, as Breward quotes generously from period documents as well as from contemporary scholars. This is one of the book's strengths, along with its focus on men's fashions and the politics of gender?male homosexuality in particular. Some weaker aspects are the author's prose style, which can be inelegant, and the uneven picture research. When it comes to this century's fashions, the book's English bias also proves problematic. (The current street fashion is summed up by a picture of a bloke in a baseball cap and flight jacket.) Otherwise, this is a solid survey of dress and the issues currently surrounding it?there's much to know about a farthingale.

This illustrated survey of 600 years of fashion investigates its cultural and social meanings from medieval Europe to 20th-century America. It provides a guide to the changes in style and taste, and challenges existing fashion histories, showing that clothes have always played a pivotal role in defining a sense of identity and society, especially when concerned with sexual and body politics. With a chronological structure, each chapter focuses on both male and female fashion of a specific period, covering its fascinating developments. It discusses: andrognous dressing; body piercing; fabrics, clothing and the rise of city life; dress, and the changing shape of the human body; controversies surrounding trousers and leg wear for both men and women; exposure of flesh; fashion and social status; and the dissemination of fashion through travel, film, magazines and catwalk shows.

About the Author
Chris Breward is Professor of Historical and Cultural Studies at the London College of Fashion (London Institute.) In 1995, he published the first academic textbook on fashion, The Culture of Fashion. He has curated various exhibitions, including 2004's Capital Fashion for the Museum of
London.

About the Author

Dr. Anil Bhansali

Dr. Anil Bhansali pursued his DM in endocrinology in 1989 from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh and is currently the Professor and Head of the department at the same institute.�His areas of interest include adrenals, gonads and type 2 diabetes mellitus.�He is actively involved in research and clinical activities and has more than about 300 publications in various national and international journals. He also is the author of many chapters in various textbooks.�He is the recipient of Prof. M.N. Sen ICMR award, Prof. M. Vishwanathan award and Prof. Shurvir Singh award among others.�He is also the consulting editor to the Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism and past president of Endocrine Society of India. Presently, he is actively involved in stem cell research and in establishing a state of art diabetic foot laboratory and facilities for clamp studies.

Dr.Yashpal Gogate

Dr.Yashpal Gogate completed his DM in Endocrinology from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. Currently, he is working as Assistant Professor at Dr Vasantrao Pawar Medical College, Nasik and is also� a Consultant Endocrinologist at Harmony Health Hub, Nasik. He has a passion in teaching graduate and postgraduate medical students.�He has been the recipient of Jal Mehta Award in Community Medicine.�His areas of interest include diabetes, thyroid disorders and polycystic ovarian disease.

“Hubris: The Troubling Science, Economics, and Politics of Climate Change” by Michael Hart is a superb

scholarly analysis of an enormous amount of data on the subject of Climate Change, a topic that has

dominated the news for the last decade. The discussions presented deal with the political, economic and

scientific elements that are central to this complex issue. I must admit it took me some time to review

and digest the amazing amount of data and citations presented in this 500+ page volume, a work that

took a decade to construct.

I am a geologist and have been studying this topic for over six years in a non-official capacity and am

well aware of many of the key scientific topics Mr. Hart references. It is not often that one comes across

a book that encapsulates all that is currently recognized as essential to understanding the topic of

anthropogenic carbon dioxide induced “climate change” (for lack of a better phrase). I was surprised to

find out that Mr. Hart was Professor Emeritus of International Affairs at Carleton University in Ottawa,

Canada and not a scientist since his insight into scientific matters is acute. His analysis of the

precautionary principle which appears to be a very pervasive and persuasive argument used by

environmentalists is effectively criticized at length in his treatise. The role of policy makers and

politicians is particularly interesting since the role of risk is not often discussed in detail regarding this

topic. He states, “No government should entertain policy choices with such momentous negative

consequences without a much firmer basis in both science and economics.”

“Hubris” addresses all of the tough technical details of this debate from poor science, biased scientific

data to actual blatant data cherry-picking and data manipulation. These issues are known to those who

have researched the subject but apparently not to well known to the public at large or even to most of

the IPCC delegates. Among other topics he discusses the inherent problems associated with computer

models that have been used as “scientific data”, the important role of clouds and water vapor in

negating the importance of anthropogenic carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and the importance of

satellite data that do not show warming of the troposphere, just to name a few of the myriad of facts

that are detailed. “Hubris” effectively mines existing climate studies and explains how little is really

known about a system as complex and chaotic as the climate system.

Many scientists know what the drawbacks of going against the “established truth” particularly in this

field. It is to his credit and courage that Mr. Hart self-published this incredibly comprehensive treatise. I

suggest anyone interested in learning the underlying elements of climate change to purchase “Hubris:

The Troubling Science, Economics, and Politics of Climate Change” as reference material.

Good read.... I want more!

If you're looking for a quick enjoyable read, this is it. I really liked this one, the overview pretty much says it all, bent cops working in the part of town known as Sin Row, where Sin lurks on every corner. Blake is one of those cops who gives in to the temptations around him, and Io is one of those temptations he can't seem to shake. I would happily recommend to everyone! I would love to have more of these characters:)

A little easy

I'm 11 years old, been playing piano for 6 years and I found this book to be a little easy for the level. Before, I had used the piano adventures series which ends at level 5, so I switched to these. Most of the pieces are actually about a level 5, so I always passed them with one week of practice. What's good about this book is that it clearly explains every concept and has a piece that goes along with the concept. If you have a choice though, I think you should skip level 6 and go straight on to play piano pieces.

Some things that this book focuses on are triads (augmented and diminished), chords, different kinds of rhythems, and the keys of D minor, F# minor, E major, C# minor, and A flat major. It also introduces thirty-second notes.

This book has some great songs in it. They are not really too hard to play. It does a good job of showing you how to play them.

Best of the Lesson Books for Late Intermediate

One of my favorite music books, even after 11 years since using it as a student. Alfred Series starts off rough and a bit too challenging for my tastes. But the Levels 5 and 6 are so good! My students have such a great challenge with the later end of this series with the solid assortment of music. So much variety, classical, obscure romantic and early 1900s works, hymns, patriotic, original fun works by the book authors, it's all here. I still end up playing my favorites from these books and bet it'll be a great choice for all teachers and students.
