Francisco Cabot is an undercover narc for the police. Meaty, exciting and the drama kept me on the edge of my seat...

Cabot is a narc who deals with the underbelly of society. This culture took his family away, and he has nothing else to live for other than to take them out. Cabot is one of the results of the drug lord way of life. Chris is the underbelly’s son, who unexpectedly offers Cabot a get out. But Cabot is on a mission – one of revenge. The question is whether he gets to complete it. His methods mean that, despite handing over the criminals, both the police and criminals hate him.

Totally awesome start to the story, but that’s not where the awesomeness stops. This tale of the seedy gutter, drugs, double-crossing, money, dirty cops and wishes for the fairytale ending had me immediately pegging it with the word, meaty. Every character had their place and was well written. I don’t think there was a scene that I couldn’t imagine from the authors description.

There are a couple of things the beta in me frowned at, such as body parts having minds of their own, e.g. My hands liked to pinch at Chris’s nipples. I’ve been informed many times by editors that, it’s among the thing a writer shouldn’t do. And if readers didn’t frown about it, I suspect, neither would editors. But if the Loose Id editors found it acceptable, then... but it is one of the things I, too, look out for and tut at when I see it.

All that being said, Crashing Blue had me trying to guess who was playing and double-crossing whom. It had my heart in knots and had me reading this story at every available moment. It is a story that I was able to sink my teeth into. I found it meaty, exciting, and the drama kept me on the edge of my seat, right to the end. It is one hell of a ride. If you like crime stories where you aren’t able to guess who the bad guy is within the first few chapters, you will love this.

Della is a new to me author and one I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for. This story starts off strong and barely lets up, so strap yourself in for one hell of a ride.

As per the blurb Cabot is an undercover cop. I’ve read many crime stories, but what made me sit up and pay attention to this one, was the blurred lines between love and loyalties, law enforcement and criminals.

There are a couple of sex scenes, even though they aren’t necessary to drive the plot. In fact, this could have been a five star read for me without them. Gasp, did I as a self-confessed smut lover just say that? I did. The reason, I don’t find analogies like this erotic – “I had a fleeting image of merry-go-rounds and me as one of the rides with a pole firmly inserted.” Or, “I thought about seizing a kiss as I crammed fingers into my ass.” Now before anyone gets upset I realize we all like different things, so my quotes could very well help with sales.

Oh, and one final irk. The reference to BDSM bordered on being offensive, to me. However, given the story is not BDSM I won’t go any further into the issue.

So, back to the plot. The story is told completely from Cabot’s point of view, and it worked perfectly well that way. The characters were well fleshed out, and I became highly invested in them. An absolute must for my reading enjoyment. I couldn’t even begin to fathom how all the events were going to play out. And just when I thought I had it all figured out, I was thrown one final loop. The point I’m trying to make is that the plot is far from predictable, which is another thing I loved about it.

I highly recommend this story to those who like edge of your seat suspenseful plots, when the stakes are high and nothing is as it seems.

I’m a sucker for crime and suspense stories especially if they’re interwoven with a strong romance. This book excelled at the crime drama but I felt the romance was a little lacking.

Francisco Cabot is a cop who has been undercover for so long he has trouble separating the fake him from the real him. After one case he is determined to rescue a mobster’s male whore named Snow. In order to get to him he worms his way back into the crime scene.

There was some parts of the plot that seemed confusing, but I looked past it because of the well-written action.

Cabot ends up falling for Christopher Caldwell, the son of the city’s biggest criminal. They were hot together but I never felt any real emotions between them. Were they in love? I suppose so, based on what they do for each other. However, I never really felt the emotions.

I enjoyed the various twists and turns throughout and was thrilled there was an HEA, considering I wasn’t sure that would be possible.

The book barely mentions the amazing - and free

I echo what other reviewers said. We've just got back from Cancun, and the book repeatedly failed us with outdated information. It appears that Forod's did little else than changing the year on the cover from the last edition. A few concrete examples:
1. The book says that Yucatan uses Central time. In fact, Yucatan is divided to 3 states, and one of them (Quintana Roo, the one containing Cancun and the Riviera Maya) moved to Eastern Time Zone in Feb 2015. This created a lot of confusion for us when we traveled across state lines.
2. The book barely mentions the amazing - and free! - night show in Chichen Itza. It took us a lot of trial and error to find the details (online we found only misleading information, like it being closed or pricy or outdated.) In fact, the lightshow was completely redone for 2015, but requires a (free) reservation you can only book online. Your hotel can do it for you. Arrive the night before by 4-5pm, have them book it for you, be there by 6:30pm for the show at 7pm, and go to Chichen Itza first thing the following day, to avoid the buses from Cancun.
3. The book information about ferries to Isla Mojeres is wrong - there are ferries from the hotel zone as well, not just from Puerto Juarez
4. The book doesn't give good directions to our most favorite attraction on the Riviera Maya - Cenote Aktun Chen (check Trip Adviser for details.)

And then the usual list of restaurants and clubs that are already closed, etc.

Find a better book.

Not enough maps, guides, or planning resources.

It contains more hotel and restaurant recommendations and fewer sightseeing descriptions, maps, and general planning resources than I prefer in a travel guide. If you had no internet access during your trip, this might be a good thing. For example, the description of the massive ruins at Coba was brief and did not include pictures or maps. Despite taking up a good portion of the book, the hotels and restaurant sections could not even come close to covering the available options and we had much better success exploring on our own.

Informative and concise

I purchased this book for an online class taught by Eddie at National University in San Diego. It was optional, but I'm glad I made the choice to go ahead and purchase it.

The book focused on "preventing employee morale knockouts" when an individual experiences working with managers who display a certain type of attitude -- whether they are a late night worker, a know it all, a credit snatcher, among many others. If I had to focus on a few key words/phrases to describe the overall message of the book I'd use: employee empowerment, communication, motivation, respect, and listening skills.

It was a great read and I was able to relate (unfortunately) to many of the chapters. It was nice to get perspective from both the employee and manager side, as well as read ways to tackle each situation. I hope no one has a manager who displays all 12 characteristics (if so, I'm sorry to hear that!) or even half of them for that matter. However, it's inevitable for all or many of us to experience some form of what Eddie speaks about. Because of that, you can't help but instill an appreciation for the steps Eddie takes in growing awareness. We all experience bosses who go wild but many times we don't know how to react and behave in those situations. More times than not, it's in a negative way but Eddie shows us more effective ways to handle them. While reading the book, I came the realization of something else -- the trickle down effect each type of boss has on his or her employees. You many feel your being singled out, but an impact is made on others around you as well. It made for some really interesting reading.

I'm giving the book a 5/5 but there is one smidgen of a complaint I have -- not enough pages! The book was concise and filled with useful information, but it left me wanting to read more. That's a sign of a good read so I can't really call it a knock on the book.

Eddie Loussararian did an amazing job with this book. I not only will be using this book towards future jobs but will let my family members know best practices and knowledge that Professor Loussararian explained in detail in this book. I know that in any job this book will come in handy for anyone wanting advice, seeking examples in tough situations and how to better themselves when it comes to team management.

Very basic book. A glorified pep talk, really. Most of the information is repeated throughout the chapters, and it is a very thin book as it is. If needed for a class, rent and return. You won't need to refer back to it, as most of the information is common sense.

I have only read to page 1042 so I do not yet know how it ends, but regardless, Pensky has rendered a limpid translation of Habermas's "Volkswagen Quantum Official Factory Repair Manual: 1982-1988, Gasoline and Turbo Diesel, Including Wagon and Syncro." This is one of those translations that appears to speak more profoundly than the original, and with the expanded appendix, the full color map, and the inclusion of new chapters on both "Wagons and Syncros" this text will spend more time on my nightstand than on the shelf.

While Prof. Habermas is one of the most versatile thinkers of the late twentieith century, one had no idea that his expertise went as far as Volkswagen repair.
Leave it to the computer wonks at Amazon to bring this little-known text to our attention. One wonders how it will affect Habermas scholarship:

Adequate, but proceed with some caution

I used the book to supplement a survey course I teach on Latin America. The information is generally good and helpful. I wish I could give it a higher rating, but the quite obvious skewed interpretation of the role of religion and the church in Latin America was worrying. For example, the authors dismiss the "Cristeros" movement as one reinforced by "reactionary clergy" engaged in a "crusade," with little historical background documenting the horrific efforts of the Calles government to destroy Christianity in Mexico. There is also no mention of the anti-clerical statutes of the 1917 Constitution, which precipitated the 10-year persecution of Catholics, resulting in the death of literally thousands. Likewise in discussing the Liberation Theology of the 1960's and 70's, the authors advance a grossly oversimplified "cartoon" image of the church, when they write "In time (priests) rejected the traditional idea that, as God's chosen people, the poor should calmly accept their plight and await salvation in heaven." They further write:

"(Liberation Theology) presented a frontal challenge to traditions of the church, which granted sole authority for the interpretation of God's word to the priest and to the Pope - not individual worshipers. According to this view the proper understanding of the divine will was to be channeled exclusively through the ecclesiastical hierarchy (as emphasized by the notion of papal infallibility). There was no room for debate, doubt, or personal interpretation."

This is a wildly oversimplified and frankly intellectually smug view. And the inclusion of the "papal infallibility" comment shows that the authors really don't know what they are talking about (the Catholic Church has never taught that the pope is infallible in everything he says; official invocation of papal infallibility is extremely rare, having been invoked less than 10 times in 2000 years). The authors add to the confusion by mentioning that: "John Paul II, progressive in so many ways, condemned Liberation Theology," while "his successor, Benedict XVI, has been even more intolerant of the liberation movement."

But tolerance (or intolerance) had nothing to do with it. The authors might have avoided such hyperbole had they bothered to read some Vatican documents such as "Instructions on Certain Aspects of the Theology of Liberation" (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith) - which was both complimentary and critical of Liberation Theology. The problem for the church was obviously not the "preferential option for the poor" or "justice and peace" (a Pontifical Commission for Justice and Peace has long existed), but the very real fear that Liberation Theology could reduce the Gospel to an earthy, political one, rather than earthy and heavenly.

The reader may think that these criticisms should not overshadow an otherwise informative book, but the problem is that "religion" is so fundamentally important to understanding the lives of the people of Latin America, that if you get that one wrong, it also calls into question the objectivity of commentary on the economics, politics, social life, etc. That combined with the lack of consistent footnoting throughout the text (mentioned also by another reviewer) may limit the book's academic usefulness.

I bought it for one of my graduate-level classes. While the author is a well-known Latin American specialist, the book seems a little bit too shallow or perhaps spread too thin. It is better-suited for undergrad classes, in my opinion.

My main problem with the book, however, is that it is too freakin expensive! It's the latest edition and all... but really--how much work did they really have to do to update the previous one? And it isn't *that* new--it's two years old at this point.

Academic book, from a well known publisher, but I've found it to contain multiple mispellings, and also that the information was not flowing chronologically, but sort of convoluted in its organization.
